About Me
My name is Meredith and I am a pediatric psychotherapist and selective mutism specialist. With selective mutism, I am a certified specialist in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Adapted for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM), as well as an approved Within Agency trainer of PCIT-SM.
Background
I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University, a Master’s degree in Special Education from Bank Street College, and a graduate certificate in Early Intervention from Georgetown University.
I have been working at the intersection of social work and special education for more than 20 years, having founded Matan in the year 2000. I specialize in working with children and teenagers with Selective Mutism, a passion that emerged over a decade ago when my own children were diagnosed with SM as preschoolers.
Additional Specialties
In addition to an affinity for working with families affected by Selective Mutism, I have extensive experience working with children and families on issues related to anxiety, mood disorders, and emotional regulation, particularly in early childhood. I utilize a strengths-based approach with children and parents to meet each individual where they are on their journey.
Award Winning Books!
Iam the co-author of the award-winning I Have a Question children’s book series, including I Have a Question about Death, I Have a Question about Divorce, I Have a Question about Cancer, and I Have a Question about Coronavirus (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively).
I also love to write short picture stories to help children manage daily challenges and emotions.
