About Me

My name is Victoria Wingate-Rivera (she/her). I am a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. I specialize in providing trauma-informed care for individuals navigating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. I have 10+ years of experience working with children, youth, and families and have worked with a diverse population of children, adolescents, and adults. Growing up in a Puerto Rican family, I've always valued the importance of understanding cultural backgrounds. I'm particularly passionate about working with multicultural and 2nd-generation Latine children and adults, helping them navigate their unique challenges. In my free time, I love to enjoy hobbies like crafting, gaming, and spending time with my husband and our pets!

Approach

My goal as a clinician is to help individuals feel empowered in their lives. Whether working with children, adolescents, or adults, I work from a trauma-informed lens and believe in a holistic approach to healing - targeting both the cognitive and somatic components of healing. This looks like working through thoughts and feelings as well as working with the nervous system through mindfulness, visualization, and EMDR-related techniques.

Education

  • Trained in EMDR through the Institute of Creative Mindfulness

  • Masters in Social Work from Widener University

  • Trauma Recovery Certificate from Widener University

  • Trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • EMDR is a gentle, yet powerful therapy that helps you heal from painful or traumatic memories. It works by using a technique called bilateral stimulation, often through guided eye movements, to help your brain reprocess those tough experiences. Over time, EMDR helps reduce the emotional weight those memories carry, allowing you to feel calmer and more in control. It’s especially effective for people dealing with trauma, PTSD, or anxiety, and it’s all about giving you the tools to move forward with confidence.

  • TF-CBT is a compassionate approach to healing, especially for children, teens, and families who have experienced trauma. It blends trauma-sensitive care with practical tools to help shift negative thoughts and feelings that often come with difficult experiences. Together, we work to untangle those tough emotions and create healthier ways of thinking and coping. It’s not just about addressing the trauma, but also about helping you feel empowered and more at ease in your day-to-day life.
